About Us
In 1942, Arthur and Ellen Kahkonen bought the 100 acres on Williamee Rd in Mecklenberg where we are located. the farm grew everything from wheat, corn, beans to the cherries and apples from Ellen's trees.

The farm went to hay fields for many years while Arthur and his son, Carl, either retired or found other employment.

In 2005, daughter Shirley and her husband Robert, moved back to the farm to retire, and thus, the farm has found new vitality. Together, the farm and Shirley and Robert have found a common purpose in their respective retirements.

Arlen Acres, so named in honor of Arthur and Ellen's efforts, is an organic farming venture, certified organic in 2009. Slowly, the hay fields are being reclaimed. Each fresh field starts out with buckwheat to help recondition the soil.

But this isn't just through the efforts of Shirley and Robert alone! It's a family pride! Every year, the extended family converge on the farm to help plant and weed and harvest. Farming is in our blood, and our hearts are here in this land. Be sure to chcek out the gallery to see for yourself and then, come see us in person!
